Hey! What’s the Big Idea?!

On the day before Thanksgiving we welcomed 20 students from Des Moines for one of our signature “School Day Off” programs. The theme for the day was “The Big Idea,” and campers were given a chance to tackle a number of momentous tasks.

The first was to create Rube Golberg machines to place a marble into a measuring cup in the most complicated way possible. Then we spent some time thinking about what we were thankful for, and using those ideas to dress our turkey.  In the afternoon, we enjoyed the record warmth by playing in the climbing tree. Enjoy the slide show and don’t forget to register for our Winter programs!

Earning their first honors

Hantesa day campers may earn their first honors in different camp “crafts.” Resident campers can work on all levels of honors due to the increased time and commitment toward each craft during the week. This past week, day campers selected one craft to improve in: archery, drama, sports and games, camp craft, or nature. On Friday, campers received their honors and day camp beads at a mini-council fire before lunch. How How to everyone for learning a new craft!

Receiving Honors

After our mini-council fire we also had the pleasure of getting to watch a skit prepared by Mr. Wolfman and the campers in our Drama craft.

Practicing Tip Tests in Preparation for Lake Day

Day campers have the unique opportunity this week to join resident campers during Lake Day on Wednesday. To prep for this experience, we require each kid of canoeing age to pass a tip-test. Everybody did great and is ready to respond if his/her canoe should happen to tip.

We're ready to tip!

We are OK!

Olympic Week Begins for Day Camp!

Day Campers are exploring the Olympics this week. This morning we started off our Olympic adventure with our very own torchlighting ceremony.

Tomorrow we will make togas and learn about the beginnings of the Olympics. We will have a closing ceremony on Friday, and the winning team’s flag will be revealed on the flag pole. Stay tuned!

One representative from each team lit their torch to light the Hantesa Olympic Flame.
